Our Response to Covid-19 

Due to Covid-19 and the closure of our lesson facilities (Fairhope United Methodist Church), all in-person lessons have been suspended till June. However, current families and new students may opt for online lessons. These lessons are given through a variety of online platforms including Zoom, FaceTime, and Facebook Messenger Video. If the pandemic situation continues to improve, we hope to resume in-person lessons in June. 

Education Philosophy

Music education is for everyone. With a focus on proper technique and a strong understanding of music theory, any student can be a successful musician.Students are not just learning the basics to get by, but are being taught skills that can benefit them for a lifetime.Using activities, games, and problem-solving skills, students are instilled with a passion for music, a spirit of creativity, and hunger to learn more.

Voice Instruction

Jenna focuses primarily on Bel Canto singing and classical voice technique to train students to use their voice effectively and without damage. Taking those techniques, students learn to apply them to styles they enjoy singing.Students also learn music theory and basic piano skills to help them develop into independent singers.

Ukulele Instruction

In ukulele lessons, students learn about proper ukulele playing technique, chord playing, and tab reading. Using a combination of songs and activities, students enjoy learning to play this wonderful Hawaiian instrument.Ukulele is recommended for ages 6 and up.

Piano Instruction

Hood Studios uses a variety of piano curriculum to fit your student’s needs. Jenna assesses each student and selects curriculum, songs, and activities that would best fit that student’s needs and personality. Curriculums used includes Wunderkeys, Faber’s Piano Adventures, Bastien, Alfred, and FJH Music as well as supplements and books from a variety of sources. Jenna uses fun and engaging ways to teach piano concepts and music theory. Piano is recommended for ages 4 and up. 

Theatre Arts 

Coming from a strong stage performance background starting at 7 years old, Jenna offers theatre arts opportunities throughout the year. However, during the school year, she volunteers at Fairhope UMC and leads the Wonder Worship Arts group (K-6th grades) with her husband, Tom Hood. Through this ministry at FUMC, they offer a FREE weekly children's choir on Wednesdays from 4:15pm-5:00pm. These groups are open to anyone in the respective grade range and perform two children's musicals a year (Christmas and Spring). The Hoods and Fairhope UMC Music Ministries look forward to offering a children's theatre camp this summer for our community. Coaching Sessions

If you are looking for audition prep, preparation for competition, or All State preparation, Hood Studios offers this as well. Sessions are offered in 45 minute, 60 minute, 90 minute, and 2 hour increments. These sessions focusing on fine tuning already learned pieces and strengthening performance skills for a great audition or competition. For All State prep, time is also spent reviewing music theory, ear training, and practicing sight reading, as well as fine tuning selected All-State literature.
